Your first visit at The Hayden Institute: For Health, Nutrition, and Rehabilitation is the most important one! During this time you to meet the doctor, become familiar with office procedures, and most importantly, allows you to go through a comprehensive, whole body evaluation while receiving your first therapeutic session.  This evaluation helps both you and the doctor to see how your body is functioning structurally, neurologically, and nutritionally.

In preparation to the initial exam, specific paperwork is completed in order to find out the necessary background information regarding why you are seeking care (ie: chiropractic care, diet/nutritional counseling, stroke rehabilitation, etc).  These papers explore many things, including: your goals for the visit, how long a particular condition or illness has been going on, how it affects your everyday life, what circumstances improve or aggravate the condition, and other similar questions in order have a greater understanding of how you are being affected.

Upon completion of the initial paperwork, the exam may begin.  During the neurological portion of the exam, every major nerve of your spine is evaluated for strength and integrity through myotome (muscle) tests.  Twelve cranial nerves (nerves of the head) are also evaluated at this time.  Range of motion of the affected areas, as well as spinal joint restrictions, muscle tenderness, and muscle tone are evaluated, and based on your history, and exam findings, x-rays may be obtained from another location as warranted, completing your structural exam.  Nutritional screening tests are performed to evaluate the function of your heart, kidneys, and adrenal glands, as well as evaluating zinc, iodine, and ionic-calcium levels.  Reflex testing of the organs, patient history/symptoms, and nutritional screening exams are the basis of nutritional recommendations in the office, although in some cases, additional laboratory tests are requested (blood work, urine analysis, etc).

This complete exam will allow us to determine if you are in the right place, and if you will be comfortable  following the recommendations of the doctor.  After all, if you need the services of another health care provider, or do not feel that you will be able to comply with the recommendations given,  we will help you to find the services of another physician that would be better suited for you.  Once we have decided that you are in the right place, you can guarantee that we will do everything that we can to help you to reach your goals.

After being accepted as a patient, our patient sessions are performed in blocks of time, in order for us to use as many services as possible per visit in order to help you with your concerns.  Office visits can range from 15 minute "tune-up" visits to 2 hour visits for patients that travel great distances to be seen in the office.  Ultimately, the office session is based on your health goals, and your presenting conditions.  Our main priority is to help you achieve your health goals in as few visits as possible.  By basing our visits on time, rather than procedure, it allows us to use multiple safe and noninvasive techniques to assist you in achieving faster results!  Gentle chiropractic care, Quantum Neurology™ Rehabilitation, low level light therapy, Applied Kinesiology, specific exercises, detoxification, and nutritional counseling and supplementation are many of the services used in our patient sessions.
